A major extension to St. Joseph's Care Centre in Longford has been given the green light.
County planners have granted permission for the development of a 43-bed residential extension to the Dublin Road facility.
The single story building will include 43 en suite residential units, day rooms, activity and therapy rooms along with staff support facilities and dining rooms.
The development calls for a new pedestrian and vehicular entrance along with a new car park and multiple support structures to house ESB transformers and maintenance facilities.
The plans lodged by the HSE have been approved by Longford planners with 12 conditions attached.
One states that existing public service infrastructure must not be compromised by construction work.
While another requires that all courtyard landscaping be done before residents occupy the new units.
