A new bridge crossing the Shannon, as part of the greenway, will open in 2023

Discussions are continuing with landowners over the route.

Works are expected to begin before the end of the year

The project will involve access to several different parcels of land

A feasibility study will examine if the proposed route could bring hundreds of cyclists and pedestrians into the Ballymahon area.

The Mid Shannon Wilderness greenway is a joint project between Longford Council and Bord Na Mona and its hoped that a park covering hundreds of hectares could eventually be developed across the bogland

Construction on the new bridge should begin in September.

It's hoped that local firms and entrepreneurs will be able to the most of the €12m investment in the 130Km trail
