It's hoped ground works at the new Shannonside Recreational Campus in Carrick-on-Shannon will begin in September.
That's according to Chairperson Brendan Lowe who says Jennings O'Donovan consultants are doing up plans for the works and they will go out to tender shortly.
The sports facility will be located behind Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada and will include an all-weather pitch, 8 lane running track, indoor basketball courts as well as changing rooms and offices.
The committee feels sports club in the region are currently using substandard facilities with a lack of all weather pitches forcing some groups to travel outside of the region to train.
Brendan Lowe has been giving an update following a meeting last week which around 150 people attended.
'Recreational Campus Company Ltd, of which I'm the Chairperson, we have nine members on that, made up of people from the GAA, from soccer, from rugby, from basketball, from athletics, from business, from the local authority, and from the health and well being industry.
We went to tender, looking for a company to do design for the ground works , that tender has finished, and a company has been appointed, Jennings O' Donovan in Sligo , and they're at the minute now doing up plans for the ground works and they will go out to tender for a company to come in and start the ground works.'
