Roscommon Deputy Denis Naughten is calling for the establishment of a cross-departmental taskforce to address emergency climate adaption measures for protecting homes.
The Independent Deputy says the first item on the agenda for the taskforce should be the authorisation of flood alleviation works at Lough Funshinagh as a case study.
The Roscommon TD raised the Lough Funshinagh issue in the Dail yesterday afternoon with his Independent colleague Michael Fitzmaurice.
Deputy Naughten says the taskforce must consider how the EU habitats designation for the lake can be repealed.
He says the designation of the lake as a turlough was questionable in the first instance and it plainly doesn't fall under the criteria anymore:
