Roscommon's Eugene Murphy has lost his seat in the Seanad.
He has been eliminated on the eighth count in the agricultural panel in the Seanad elections.
There were 11 seats up for grabs and Murphy finished 24th, with 17,655.
It ends his 40-year streak of unbroken service as a public representative.
He was first elected to Roscommon County Council in 1985 and retained his seat until he was elected to the Dail in 2016.
He won a seat in the Seanad in 2020.
The Scramogue man unsuccessfully contested the general election in November, as an Independent, after quitting Fianna Fáil after they refused to allow him to stand in the general election in Roscommon-Galway.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael senator Aisling Dolan is also on the verge of losing her seat, on the same panel.
