There have been calls for the practice of hare coursing to be banned.
People gathered for a protest outside Leinster House this afternoon, calling it "cruel".
Minister Darragh O'Brien is expected to decide whether to grant a license for hares to be taken to be used as part of the coursing season, which starts in September.
'We think it's entirely against the whole biodiversity crisis that we're in.
It sends the wrong message and coursing is just such an intrinsically cruel pastime.
I wouldn't call it a sport because it doesn't qualify as a sport in any aspect.'
