The head of a local hospital group is appealing to everyone to try to assist local health services by staying at home and avoiding any unnecessary contacts

Tony Canavan says it is alarming and striking how quickly cases have risen since Christmas Day.

According to new HSE information, 1,151 people with Covid-19 are being treated in Irish hospitals this morning - a record total for the third day in a row.

32 people with Covid are being treated at Cavan University Hospital - including four new admissions in the last day.

18 people at Sligo are being treated for Coronavirus - thirteen in Tullamore, eight at Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe and six in Mullingar.
