A Roscommon woman is calling on the Minister for Health to visit Portiuncula Hospital following the death of her mother at the facility this week.
Edel says she feared her mum would die on a trolley due to severe overcrowding at the Ballinasloe hospital on Wednesday.
Her mother was transferred from Roscommon Hospital having suffered a seizure but she was left on a trolley in the ED for over seven hours before she got a bed.
The Roscommon resident passed away on Wednesday evening.
Edel says despite living close to Roscommon Hospital, the facility was unable to treat her mother due to a lack of services.
She believes it was a mistake to close the A&E at the local hospital and feels the proposed downgrading of other hospitals in the country including Navan is wrong.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Edel is now calling for Stephen Donnelly to visit both Roscommon and Portiuncula and to ensure changes are made to the healthcare system.
