A nursing unit in Co Roscommon received a glowing report from HIQA inspectors.
It follows an unannounced inspection at the Plunkett Community Nursing Unit in Boyle in October 2024.
The unannounced inspection focused on the use of restrictive practices within the centre, which provides accommodation for 33 residents.
Inspectors observed that residents were supported to have a good quality of life in what they described to be a 'homely' centre.
Residents were seen to be making choices about their daily routine, such as when they would go to bed, what activities they took part in, where they spent their day, and which meal they preferred.
Staff were aware of each residents' needs and were seen to be providing care and support accordingly.
The care was noted to be person-centred, kind and respectful. Call bells were answered and responded to in a timely manner.
The overall judgment made was that the centre was substantially compliant with National Standards.
The inspectors found that the management team had systems in place to ensure that the use of restraints in the centre was well managed, and that the number of restraints continued to reduce.
