A Leitrim Councilor is calling on Landowners, farmers, and rural householders to cut and maintain their hedge rows as the hedge cutting season begins.
Today marks the start of the annual hedge cutting season which runs until February 28th.
Cllr. Paddy Farrell says that there are a lot of people across Leitrim that use the road network and the importance of maintaining road side hedging can't be under estimated.
The Fianna Fail Councilor and farmer says hedge cutting is needed to keep rural roads safer.
"If you at the statistics , we are gone over two thirds of the way through the year and we are at numbers of 110 who have lost their lives on our roads. Leitrim may not be the biggest culprit, but its a lot of people for a small country and we need to what we can do to reduce the problem in anyway."
