Good interest has already been expressed for the new food hub units being built in Castlerea over recent months.
That's according to local councillor Pascal Fitzmaurice who says the new units should be finished by this summer.
Funding for the initiative was approved under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund a year ago and the local councillor says he believes the project will help create good sustainable jobs for the local area.
The Food Hub already provides business development supports, below-market rental space, and access to share specialised equipment for small businesses.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon, Councillor Fitzmaurice says the units are a very good fit for the hub and the town:
We've had quite a number of inquires and our Chairperson Benny O'Connell who has Benny's Deli and is involved in the food industry is a valuable person to have as our chairperson.
Also he has the knowledge to bring to a building like this and trying to bring it forward as food incubation units.
We've looked at many food units like Drumshanbo and Athenry and we're quite confident that Castlerea can bring quite a number of jobs to the area for the food industry.
