It's hoped that residents and businesses in Roscommon town will be able to connect to high-speed broadband by the middle of this summer.
People in Carrick-on-Shannon and Athlone may have to wait until this time next year to see high-speed fibre installed at their homes.
Approximately 19,000 premises in County Roscommon require high-speed broadband and the intervention of the NBI to roll out fibre, which is almost 49%.
A presentation from a senior officer of the national broadband plan at the February meeting of Roscommon County Council revealed that work is underway in Roscommon and Ballinasloe to build the broadband network and several premises in Roscommon will be fed from local exchanges in Athlone, Ballinasloe, Longford and Carrick-on-Shannon.
Once the build in Roscommon is finished, the plan will then move to Castlerea, and E-net as well as Eir have also applied for licences to offer services to customers as part of the plan which is set to cost an estimated €75 million locally.
It's hoped customers will be able to place pre-orders orders for their premises June of this year with people being connected by July, August and September for the estimated 3100 premises in Roscommon town.
Build work is due to begin in Carrick-on-Shannon and Athlone in the autumn with connections set to begin this time year.
