Health inspectors called for several improvements to be made at Roscommon nursing home following an inspection earlier this year.
Fire safety concerns were among the issues highlighted by Hiqa at the Sonas nursing home in Cloverhill, Roscommon.
This inspection took place in April of this year over the course of two days and Hiqa noted many positive interactions between staff and residents with residents appearing to be happy with the care they were receiving
However, a number of concerns were raised by inspectors around fire safety at the premises- which were linked to construction works at the nursing home.
One fire exit was not in use and another was impacted by the works.
Inspectors noted fire safety risks related to the existing premises, storage of items in cupboards and the ongoing construction works were impacting on the safety of residents.
Overall Hiqa noted that poor record keeping, lack of oversight regarding the training and development of staff, and systems relating to the governance and management of the centre required a number of actions to bring the designated centre into full compliance with the regulations.
Of 15 outcomes inspected, eight were non-compliant, six were compliant and one substantially compliant.
In a statement to Shannonside FM, a senior manager confirmed that they note "the inspector's findings that residents and families were happy with the care they were receiving at Sonas Cloverhill."
(They) "acknowledge the issues raised and say they have worked closely with HIQA since then to address the concerns raised."
They also stated that "Cloverhill continues to provide high-quality personal care and this has been recognised in previous reports."
