A Hiqa report has concerns around fire safety at Leitrim care centre.
A total of three non-compliances were reported by Hiqa inspectors at the Arus Carolan nursing home in Mohill following an inspection last year.
The inspection took place at the end of last September with 33 residents in the care of staff on the day.
Inspectors found that residents were very complimentary of staff with on residents describing their kindness as "extraordinary". and residents were positive about the centre care environment
However, Hiqa inspectors found a total of three non-compliances, relating to fire safety, governance and management as well as premises.
Inspectors noted gaps in walls along a corridor and a hole in the ceiling of a corridor used by residents and that surfaces in the centre were not maintained to a high quality in order to prevent infection transmission.
The report details concerns that while there was enough care staff for residents, additonal support was required for housing keeping to maintain cleaning schedules.
Hiqa also raised the issue of fire safety- claiming that assurances regarding measures to protect residents' safety in a fire were not adequate
Out of 18 outcomes inspected, three were non-compliant, six were substantially complaint and nine were compliant.
The Hse has confirmed that an Action plan has been put in place to address the Non-Compliances and it is estimated that all Non-Compliances will be addressed and closed out by End of October 2022.
