Patient welfare and care at a Longford Nursing Home has been praised by HIQA inspectors in a new report.
Laurel Lodge Nursing Home outside of Longford Town was the subject of an unannounced inspection in November last year.
The nursing home provides short and long-term care for up to 114 men and women in three distinct lodges on site, with 109 residents on site on the day of inspection.
On arriving at the facility, inspectors noted that residents were very comfortable, relaxed and chatting, with the centre itself also observed to be clean and tidy throughout.
Visiting procedures were found to be operating smoothly during the inspection with residents stating they were happy with visitation arrangements.
A report released by HIQA today shows Laurel Lodge recording 6 full compliance's and 8 substantial compliance's, with no non compliance's recorded.
Inspectors noted some issues in relation to resident dinning, with the dinning unit in the Glencar Lodge found to be overly noisy, while staff supporting service users who required help to eat were called away to help other residents.
Other issues highlighted included the risk posed of cross contamination of personal hygiene products stored together in communal bathrooms and a requirement for some staff to attend refresher training in the safeguarding of residents.
Overall, HIQA inspectors noted that there has been significant improvement to services at the Longford care home and that the civil and religious rights of residents were found to be supported by staff.
Following the results of the inspection, management at the Care Home presented an action plan to the Health Information and Quality Authority addressing all raised issues.
