Improvements to infection control and fire safety measures are needed at a Roscommon care home according to a newly released HIQA report.
Fearna Manor Nursing Home was the subject of an unannounced inspection in May where inspectors highlighted several issues of concern.
The facility run by Castlerea Nursing Home Ltd, cares for up to 53 dependents at its centre in Castlerea.
On interviewing residents, inspectors were told that service users were happy and well looked after at the centre, with those spoken to highlighting the kindness of the staff.
However, during the course of the inspection, several areas of concern were noted in areas such as staffing, training, infection control and fire safety.
Inspectors were critical of infection control measures in place at the centre , with a limited number of staff hand hygiene stations present in the building, dirty cleaning equipment and a dirty and cluttered utility room noted.
In the area of fire safety, several areas were highlighted as in need of improvement.
Fire doors, ceiling hatches and emergency exists were found to not provide adequate assurances they were suitable for containing fires.
While Floor plans did not adequately reflect the layout of the building , and no suitable fire fighting equipment was located near the two smoking areas.
The facility has engaged with HIQA to address and rectify the issues highlighted in the inspectors report including regular cleaning inspections, and updated floor plan and appropriate fire fighting equipment located in the smoking areas.
