A local councillor claims local information may be behind a recent spate of burglaries in Roscommon. Fine Gael Councillor Liam Callaghan believes recent break-ins in the Tulsk, Ballinagare and Frenchpark areas have been carried out by criminals targeting vacant properties. Cllr Callaghan says the burglaries have occurred at unusual times, which suggest the use of local knowledge.
He has urged homeowners to be on their guard when sharing information such as eircodes with strangers. The Fine Gael councillor has also called for a reactivation of dormant Community Alert initiatives as well as the introduction of CCTV in towns and villages.
