The number of people who are homeless in the north western region has doubled in the last five years according to new research.
Figures presented at a Housing conference which took place earlier this month revealed a major rise in the number of people accessing emergency services.
Michael Taft is a economic research officer with the trade union and admits that the way we are counting people are homeless may not be giving an accurate portrayal of people who do not have keys to their own property.
He outlines that in Roscommon especially there has bene a big surge in people presenting as homeless.
''Homelessness between over the last five years has for instance more than doubled in Roscommon and in terms of taking all three of the counties together Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim again, they've more than doubled. Now the total amount in 2022 of adult homeless was about nearly 130 but that is probably an underestimation and the real issue is that it is increasing.''
