It's hoped that works on building a new Hartley bridge near Carrick-on-Shannon could be underway by this time next year.
A public consultation process is currently underway on plans to demolish the current structure and replace it with a new bridge 25 metres downstream.
Leitrim County County has submitted a planning application to An Bord Pleanala and the public has until early December to lodge submissions with the planning inspectors.
