It's hoped a partnership between councillors in East Galway and parts of Roscommon will have huge benefits on the area.
Local representatives from the Ballinasloe, Athlone and Roscommon Municipal Districts will hold a special meeting on Thursday of this week to discuss potential collaborations on some projects.
Councillor Dr. Evelyn Francis Parsons will chair the inaugural discussion which will be held in Gullanes Hotel in Ballinasloe.
Speaking on Let's Talk earlier the Ballinasloe MD Cathaoirleach explained some of the ideas which may be worked on in time.
"We have a lot in common. It's a great opportunity to open the conversation and start the dialogue about the common areas that we serve. We have much in common with regards to rural recreation, heritage, sustainable tourism, the development of the Suck river as an example as an asset. It's an under utilised asset, even looking at things like the water quality, biodiversity, the possibility of a blueway"
