It's hoped that the first phase of the second Drumshanbo Food Hub can be finished later this year with the help of Enterprise Ireland.
An application for further funding for the project has come before the body in recent weeks and the Chairman of Drumshanbo Community Council says they're hoping to be successful.
The project is taking place at the former IDA factory on the Dowra road but Councillor Enda McGlio says they've found themselves short of funds to finish the works because of inflation and some alterations that have to be made on site.
He says they have a tenant in the existing Food Hub who are anxious to move in and take up a large part of the new premises as soon as it can be finished, and that in turn will lead to more jobs in the community.
''The good thing about it is we have 'Chef in the Box' who are hoping to expand their operations. So they're looking at maybe taking 75% of the total square footage in the second food hub on the Dowra road. that will increase employment and bring them into a situation where they can expand production. And therefore we had to go back to Enterprise Ireland, and we're very hopeful that they will recognise that.''
