There's hopes for a further expansion of services at the St. Joseph's Hospital Campus in Longford following a major announcement last week. As part of the plan, St Joseph's Care Centre in Longford Town will see a major rebuild as well as a confirmation of a second hospice bed for the county. The works will see bed capacity at the care centre increase to 68 bed spaces with works expected to begin later in Summer. The funds come from a national allocation of 1.2 billion euro for HSE projects last week.
Local Councillor Peggy Nolan has been campaigning for the rebuilding of the unit for a number of years. She believes this investment will help the case for further services to be located on the Dublin Road site.
