A new Democratic School planned for Leitrim is to hold a series of information evenings in the coming weeks.
The School of Empowering Education is planning to open their doors in Mohill September for up to 30 students.
The school has lodged a planning application with Leitrim County Council for the change of use of a creche in the town to a democratic school.
The schools are based on the American Sudberry model and allow every member of the school such as staff and students to have a voice in running the school, curriculum and activities.
The school will hold the first of two information evenings at the Hive in Carrick on Shannon on the First of June from 6.30 to 8.30 and a further meeting at Mohill Library at the same time on June the 8th.
Katrina Sheerin from the School says there is major interest in the school locally:
'So we have 12 enrollments and that's with no information evenings and no bid advertisements.
We've already got 12 children enrolled and we opened enrollments 10 days ago.
So we have two information evenings coming up, one of the 1st of June in the Hive Carrick on Shannon from half six to half eight.
Another one at Mohill Library on the 8th of June from half six to half eight.
That will give us a good indication of how many children we can enroll after that.'
