It's hoped that Construction on a new 42 bed medical block at Sligo University Hospital should begin by the end of this year.
The project received funding under the HSE's Capital Programme for 2023 in order for the completion of the design and tendering processes.
According to an update provided to the most recent Western Region Health Forum, the HSE Estates team and Hospital Management plan on seeking tenders from a short list of contractors over the summer.
HSE Board approval of the selected contractor will take place in Autumn, with ground works set to take place in late 2023 once a successful public works contract is awarded.
According to the HSE, bed capacity at Sligo University Hospital is set to increase to 431 by 2030.
