It's hoped the next step in the regeneration of Connolly Barracks in Longford Town will future proof a multi-million investment into the project. The council are seeking tenders to progress the renovation and redevelopment of the former site as a museum and Cultural/Community Centre.
The project received close to €200,000 in funding from the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme towards a feasibility report and the compiling of a planning application. The Connolly Barracks plan includes a new county museum as a key element of the plan, as Longford has been without such a facility for a number of years.
