The CEO of Roscommon Hospice hopes its new unit will be accessible to patients before the end of the year.
Although the eight-bed facility in Roscommon town is fully finished the charity is finalising a lease agreement with the HSE.
The recruitment process is still ongoing however it's now nearing completion with the majority of posts filled.
The 6.3 million euro development was officially opened in November of last year and when operational will provide end of life care as well as day services, therapy rooms and a base for home care teams.
Martina Jennings says the hospice is seeing an increased demand for its service with new referrals reaching between 48-52 people each month.
She says its now about getting the patients into the facility.
''We're leasing the building to the HSE so the foundation remains the owners. That has been probably the most laborious and time consuming part of this and it's the area people aren't aware of really, but I am happy to say that the heads of agreement have been agreed, and they have now been sent to from HSE estates to the their solicitor so we would expect feedback on that in the next couple of weeks and the final lease to be signed and that's the final thing that will have to be done then before it's opened.''
