It's hoped major improvement works on the Roscommon town drainage scheme will be complete in under 12 months' time.
Irish Water has confirmed that it is now more than half way through a project replacing water mains for a majority of the town.
Engineers have bene working since last autumn on a project that will see more than 7km of new sewer infrastructure, new and upgraded pumping stations and storm water overflows being developed across the town.
The project has also seen the tunnelling of a pipe under Roscommon's railway line and River Jiggy.
Irish Water's Regional Delivery Lead Eunan Canavan is hopeful the project will be finished in the opening months of next year.
