Hopes that Mullingar paediatric diabetes clinic can be one of best in country

The consultant leading the paediatric diabetes clinic at Mullingar hospital says he hopes it can become one of the best in the country.

Professor Michael O' Grady was speaking as the diabetes clinic at the hospital has been significantly enhanced.

The service faced an uncertain future earlier this year over staffing issues but it's now become a full multidisciplinary team.

The clinic helps 130 young people from across Longford and Westmeath, as well as parts of Roscommon and even Leitrim.

Professor O'Grady says the service has also moved into a new home on the grounds of Mullingar General Hospital and that has also helped.
