It's hoped that work on the development of a second food hub in Drumshanbo can begin early next year.
Planning permission to develop a former IDA advance factory on the Dowra road was submitted to Leitrim County Council in recent days and the project is expected to create up to 50 new jobs when it's operating fully.
The original food hub which was developed in 2005 has been a major success and some of the tenants there will take up space in the new centre to allow them to expand.
It's planned that a new educational, training and research centre will also form part of Phase 2 on the new site.
Funding of almost one million euro for the new hub was announced in 2018 under the government's Regional Action Plan for Jobs.
Fergal Mc Partland is manager of the existing food hub in Drumshanbo and says this new development will be more customised than their original project.
