The family of Detective Garda Colm Horkan admit they are still trying to come to terms with his sudden death.
Members of the late Mayo man's family were in attendance at ceremony in Loughglynn this week to remember two Gardai who were killed at Shannon's Cross in 1980.
Tributes were paid to Garda Henry Byrne as well as Detective Garda John Morley, and the late Roscommon based detective by a number of speakers, including the Garda Commissioner who praised their bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty.
A man accused of murdering the 48-year-old in Castlerea on June 17th is due back in court this Friday.
