Roscommon man Alan Fitzmaurice who's been named as the new president of the Panel of Chefs Ireland says the hospitality industry is facing a serious staffing crisis unless it moves fast to address pay and conditions.
Alan Fitzmaurice is a native of Castlerea and works as Executive Chef at the Glasshouse in Sligo.
The Panel of Chefs was established at the end of the 1950's and its main aim is to promote all aspects of the Culinary Arts Profession in Ireland.
The Roscommon chef says a shortage of staff is forcing many food businesses to cut back on opening hours right now, and people need to be offered structured development of a career and decent pay in order for the situation to improve:
