The new beds are part of the national Acute Inpatient Bed Capacity Expansion plan which will bring 3,352 new beds according to the Minister for Health.

Sligo Univeristy Hospital is the worst affected with 50 people waiting for a hospital bed whilst Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinasloe has 29 people waiting in it's ED.
