Threshold says an average of 472 private renters a month are contacting its services as they're facing eviction.
The national housing charity's advisors are answering one call every twenty minutes from people receiving notices to quit from their landlords.
It says it's helped prevent more than 1,000 households becoming homeless between July and September, including nearly 1,200 children.
Threshold's National Advocacy Manager Ann-Marie O'Reilly says the figures could be just the tip of the iceberg.
''On average 472 renters facing eviction month are coming to us. And that's just the ones that are ringing Threshold. There's presumably others who have received notice termination as well, who has some who haven't gotten in touch with ourselves. So it really is at an unprecedented level, as you say around the country.''
