A new multi-billion euro government plan on housing is likely to focus on investment in affordable and social housing.
The Minister for Housing is to announce the 'Housing for All' strategy later today.
Minister Darragh O'Brien is also expected to announce planning exemptions to develop homes above shop and business premises.
The long-awaited plan commits to a €4 billion annual investment in housing.
It sets yearly targets across social, affordable and cost rental housing.
Up to and including 2030, the Government is aiming to deliver 300,000 homes.
It's reported that the new plan will see local authorities given greater ability to purchase land for social and affordable housing.
Dr Lorcan Sirr, Senior Lecturer in Housing at TU Dublin, says the government should build new social housing rather than leaving it to the private sector.
