The 'Housing for All' plan will see huge movement in developing town centres in the Shannonside Northern Sound region for private homes according to a local Oireachtas member.
Roscommon Senator Eugene Murphy says the government plan will remove planning obstacles for re purposing properties above shops and businesses for families.
The plan to be published this afternoon commits to €4 billion euro a year in housing with a target of delivering 300,000 homes by the end of the decade.
The government wants to reach 33,000 houses built per year by 2025, which will include 10,000 social houses per annum.
Senator Murphy says it has the potential to provide a major boost to populations in smaller towns and villages.
