The HSE has said it's committed to a full upgrade of all of the equipment in the radiology room at St Joseph's campus in Longford town.
The news comes as concerns have bene issued about the future of the service in recent months because of the poor condition of machines at the facility.
In a letter sent to local Fianna Fail TD Joe Flaherty in recent days, the HSE says a site visit was undertaken with Dr Ger Flynn from the National Equipment Replacement Programme on the 17th of last month, and a further preliminary assessment of the Longford x-ray Unit was arranged for a fortnight later.
The letter says that a company known as Medray are the approved suppliers of the particular equipment involved and they have been part of the recent site visits.
Local Fine Gael councillor Peggy Nolan had expressed serious concern over the future of the x-ray unit in recent months after she visited the site for treatment and saw first-hand the condition of the equipment.
Deputy Flaherty says he understands that costings are underway for the upgrade and if additional funding is allocated in the coming months he's hopeful approval will be finalised then.
