The HSE have confirmed they are investigating all options around the delivery of a long awaited Primary Care Centre in Ballaghdereen after plans hit a major roadblock. The long-promised facility was expected to include a GP suite, a pharmacy and other medical services.
It was confirmed late last month that the developer had withdrawn from the project, leading to significant concern from locals as to the future of the centre. Locally based Senator Gareth Scahill has called on Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to intervene.
In a response to the newly appointed Roscommon Senator, the office of the Minister for Health confirmed that the provider did not begin construction within the required three month time frame. The provider then informed the HSE that they were no longer interested in progressing the project at previously agreed upon rental rates.
The Department of Health state they were left with no other choice but to terminate the contract. The Minister of Health has now confirmed that the HSE are investigating all options around an expedited delivery of the service.
These options include: the possibility of purchasing the proposed site and tendering works directly, purchasing an alternative site or re-advertising for the contract at the original site.
