The HSE has confirmed that funding has been allocated to replace the general x-ray machine at the radiology department at St Joseph's campus in Longford.
The poor condition of the equipment has led to several breakdowns and interruptions of services for people attending the unit in recent months.
Longford Fine Gael councillor Peggy Nolan had threatened to organise a "civil disobedience" event on the road outside St Joseph's campus in recent months to highlight the poor condition of the equipment.
She said it was the "toss of a coin" every day as to whether the machinery would work, and if it failed completely she feared the unit would likely be lost to Longford for good.
Over 40 people present for x-rays on a daily basis at the facility saving them a journey to Mullingar or Tullamore hospitals.
Senator Micheal Carrigy raised the issue in the Seanad this week and was informed that the HSE confirmed the funding has been allocated for the x-ray machine under the equipment replacement programme.
He was also informed that the estimated timeline for the completion of the works will be the autumn of this year.
