The HSE has confirmed there are no plans to close the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon town.
It's understood that speculation in the town in recent weeks had led people to believe that the hospital could be earmarked for closure by the HSE.
However, in a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound, the HSE has confirmed that fire safety works in St. Catherine's Ward are scheduled to be completed this week with works to commence on St. Michael's Ward in the coming days.
Residents of St. Catherine's and St. Michael's Wards are relocating temporarily within the hospital itself to accommodate these essential fire safety works and planning permission is expected to be submitted for the new 50 bed build by the end of quarter one of this year.
