The HSE is looking at plans to allow partners of pregnant women view maternity appointments remotely.
It follows criticism over the past couple of months of restrictions in hospitals.
The restrictions vary from hospital to hospital, with some women saying they are being forced to go through one of the most significant moments of their lives alone.
HSE guidance says only one person should attend the scans to reduce the number of people in the hospital.
It's believed the plan would involve a video call with the woman's partner so they could see the scan as it was being taken.
Donegal TD Thomas Pringle has said pregnant women and partners should be counted as one person.
Catherine Allman is 35 weeks pregnant - she says they have been overlooked.
Earlier this month Junior Health Minister Mary Butler told the Dáil the low level of infections in pregnant women and maternity wards is due to the visitor restrictions in place.
