The HSE expects that a Roscommon nursing home will be able to accept new admissions when upgrading works are completed later this year.
It was confirmed this week that two nursing homes in the county are not accepting any new residents on foot of advice form the heath watchdog Hiqa.
Aras Mathair Phoil Community Nursing Unit, Castlerea is currently without a permanent Person in Charge to oversee the service.
The HSE claims that despite an extensive recruitment campaign, the role is unfilled and the acting PIC is carrying out duties at this time.
As part of the centre's re registration with Hiqa, the west Roscommon facility cannot accept any new admission until the position is filled.
The Sacred Heart hospital in Roscommon town is also closed to any new residents until extensive upgrading works are completed.
The HSE expects the works to be complete in Quarter Four of this year which will then allow the Community Nursing Unit to reopen for admissions.
Denis Naughten TD has said the suspension of admissions to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon Town & Aras Mathair Phoil in Castlerea, on top of the closure of a number of local nursing homes, will directly impact on vulnerable older people who are unable to remain in their own home for medical reasons.
He says the government must provide alternative local beds for older people who require long term care pending the reopening of both the Sacred Heart & Aras Mathair Phoil to new admissions ,and he will be taking this up with the Health Minister in Dáil Éireann,
