Infection risks identified during an inspection of Leitrim Community Hospital have been adressed by the HSE.
The facility in Carrick-On-Shannon was found to be only partially compliant in a number of infection control areas.
St. Patrick's Community Hospital in Carrick-On-Shannon is a short stay unit with 19 available beds, owned and managed by the HSE.
Issues with decontaminating regularly used patient monitoring equipment and storage concerns over cleaning supplies and equipment were highlighted in a Hiqa inspection late last year.
In one storeroom, the majority of supplies were kept on open shelving units near a damp window with mould evident, with some of these supplies not enclosed within their packaging.
Also, on the day of inspection, inspectors recorded no signage or warnings on the entrance to isolation rooms, and no ensuite toilet or shower facilities servicing the rooms.
In a Statement to Shannonside Northern Sound, the HSE has confirmed they have introduced a number of measures at the Leitrim facility.
Visible signage has now been installed on the entrance to isolation rooms, while a review of decontamination practises has also been implemented to ensure full compliance.
A new storage area has been designated for medical and patient goods, with storage practises and procedures under review.
According to the HSE, they are monitoring the hospital and are committed to providing a safe, high-quality service to all residents and patients.]
