The HSE has submitted its intention to seek planning permission for the new 43 bed unit at St Joseph's Care Centre in Longford.
The project, which has an estimated budget of 11 million euro involve the demolition of a St Teresa's residential unit, as well as other residential accommodation and maintenance buildings.
In pre-validation documents submitted to Longford County Council on Thursday, the HSE gives notice of its intention to seek permission to construct of a new single story extension to provide a new 43 residential unit on the west side of the campus at St Joseph's.
It's to incorporate en-suite bedrooms, day rooms, dining rooms, activity and therapy rooms, staff support rooms, a new vehicular and pedestrian entrance to the Care Centre.
There will also be a new carpark on east side of the campus
The project was first included in the HSE Capital Plan 2014-2108 and funding of 11 million euro was reaffirmed by Minister Simon Harris as Health Minister in April 2019.
