INMO says 710 people were left waiting for beds in hospitals today.

A rise is the number of people infected with the disease in the UK and parts of Europe has raised concerns here.

The Roscommon injury unit will remain open on Bank Holiday Monday however the Mullingar minor injuries unit will be closed.

There are sixteen patients waiting on trolleys at Portiuncula Hospital and 32 waiting for a bed in Sligo.

Inspectors noted a number of major issues on the premises including Sanitation, personal hygiene, and food traceability.

The HSE is reporting 2,644 cases of flu in the first week of 2024.

The HSE is urging people to remain vigilant and aware of the virus as Ireland's Covid inquiry is said to be submitted to Cabinet shortly.

The hospital is appealing to the public not to visit if they are feeling unwell or have respiratory symptoms.
