Public health officials have labelled two temporary pop-up test centres in the Shannonside Region as significant successes.
The centres were established at the Athlone Regional Sports Centre and the Ballinasloe Town Hall / Library Carpark over the long Easter weekend, with the capacity to conduct up to 400 tests a day.
Over a thousand people have attended both locations so far, with operations due to wrap up this evening. The temporary centres are designed to test the positivity rate in the community among people with A-symptomatic cases of Covid-19.
