Several hundred million euro has been paid out in compensation by hospital groups operating in the Shannonside region in the last ten years.
Figures released to Aontu leader Peadar Tobin reveal that the Saolta group, which operates Roscommon University Hospital as well as Portiuncula and Sligo University Hospitals, paid out €125m.
There is no breakdown of compensation payments or cases linked to individual facilities and all payments were made under the Clinical Indemnity Scheme and the General Indemnity Scheme.
The Ireland East Hospital Group, which operates Mullingar Hospital paid out a total of €272 million in the last ten years - with the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group which operates Tullamore Hospital, also paid out €198m in the last decade.
