Hundreds still suffering from power outages across Shannonside region

Hundreds across the Shannonside region remain without power this evening.

At one stage, almost 31,000 homes and businesses in Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon were experiencing blackouts.

However, the issue is now mainly confined to parts of North Roscommon and Co. Leitrim.

The ESB have also offered free dinners to those affected at various locations in the region today.

These people availed of the service in the Leitrim Inn.

Meanwhile 21 homes in Lisacul, near Ballaghaderreen, aren't expected to have power restored until Saturday night.

Local councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says these people should also get free meals.

He says it's not practical for them to travel to Longford town or Leitrim village to avail of the dinners.
