An award winning documentary on the social history of the women of Ireland will be screened in Longford this evening.
Longford ICA are hosting the screening of 'Housewife of the Year' in the Omniplex in the town from 6pm.
The film, which won Best Irish Feature Documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh last year tells the story of the competition that saw women all over Ireland competing to win the Housewife of the Year.
The competition saw contestants competing in cookery, nurturing, and basic household management skill competitions.
The film focuses on former contestants recounting their experiences of marriage bars, contraception, Magdalene institutions, financial vulnerability and marital breakdown.
May Campbell from the Longford Branch of the ICA says the group is delighted to welcome a former contestant and contributor to the film, Ena Howell to the screening.
