Revenue Officers have seized over 59-thousand euro worth of herbal cannabis and smuggled cigarettes.
Two separate operations in the Dublin and Athlone Mail Centres uncovered the illegal goods.
7 parcels were seized in the capital, in which 1.6 kilograms of cannabis was discovered by Bailey, the detector dog.
Meanwhile in Athlone, 65 parcels were seized, with 880 grams of cannabis and over 13-thousand cigarettes inside.
The illegal drugs have an estimated value of over €17,500 and were discovered in 35 separate parcels which originated in the UK and the US.
The smuggled cigarettes were discovered in 30 separate parcels originating from China and were declared as items such as ‘Playing Cards’, ‘Plastic Rulers’ and ‘Jigsaw’. The cigarettes have a retail value of over €9,000 representing a loss to the exchequer of almost €7,200. The parcels were destined for addresses in Dublin, Kildare, Carlow and Tipperary.
All parcels in both centres had false labels on them, with some described as clothing, DVD players, textiles, playing cards and jigsaws.
