A Longford councillor is giving a cautious welcome to the news that work is due to start this month on the Majors Well road in Longford town.
Plans to improve the key approach road to the county town have been in the pipeline for some years now but the project has faced some delays, including the Covid pandemic.
The plans for the road include the installation of new cycle lanes on either side of the road, as well as the improvements of junctions along the main route.
Councillor Seamus Butler says that while the road is presently under the control of the TII as a national route, it's hoped that it could be re-routed as a local council concern for the future.
